About the Organization: To strengthen the well-being of the people serving in America's military and their families. -USO Mission Statement Just prior to the onset of America's involvement in World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to unite several service associations to uplift the morale of the U.S. military and bolster support on the home front. This initiative brought together the Salvation Army, Young Men's Christian Association, Young Women's Christian Association, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Association, and the National Jewish Welfare Board, forming the United Service Organizations, or the USO. From its origin, the mission of the USO has been unwaveringly focused on supporting America's service members and their families.
