Job Description

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The CFO manages and directs all programmatic and financial operations of the organization. Monitors, assesses, and enhances program growth and development to achieve the organization's programmatic goals. Responsible for the financial management and control of Summit Academy OIC. Directs Finance, IT, and Facilities functions. Acts as financial advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and other officers of the organization. Attends Board of Directors and Committee meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise, monitor, and evaluate performance of assigned directors, managers and staff.
  • Establish and maintain all banking and financing relationships.
  • Provide oversight and guidance of the Financial Aid programs including Federal Title IV and Minnesota State Grant.
  • Financial advisor to the Chief Executive Officer on all matters relative to public and internal operations.
  • Design and control an effective accounting system, to generate timely and accurate financial statements and reports.
  • Evaluate and implement internal controls to assure compliance with management policy.
  • Primary contact with external auditing firms. Coordinate the annual external public accounting audit and Single Audit for Student Financial Aid.
  • Function as Risk Management Officer for the organization, accountable for all insurance contracts.
  • Review and approve contracts related to programming, monitor and report revenues generated from same.
  • Negotiate required facility leases and approve them in accordance with Summit Academy's leasing policy.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly and quarterly cash forecasting of revenues and expenses.
  • Provide oversight of IT function of organization.
  • Oversee Facility Functions and direct facility improvements.
  • Prepare for and present at various Board of Director of Committee Meetings.

Budgeting and Planning
  • Plan and coordinate organization wide budgeting process.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer, as appropriate, to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Monitor all program budgets.
  • Actively participate in an organization wide strategic planning process.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Banking & Finance
  • Assure adequate resources available to support functions of organization.
  • Maintain Banking relationships
  • Interface will all external stakeholders regarding financial matters.
  • Oversee all stock transactions from contributing donors.
  • Serve as Plan Sponsor and Trustee of Summit 401K plan
  • Manage and maintain Third Party Administrator relationship for 401K plan.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated mastery of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB rules and regulations.
  • Ability to administer organizational policies in a consistent and effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent oral communication, analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and take on independent responsibility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Directly Supervises the Director of Accounting and Business Support and the Director of Information Technology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional school and office environment. This role constantly uses standard office equipment such as: computers (with keyboard and mouse), phones, and photocopiers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Summit Academy OIC's business hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. The specific work schedule is flexible and will be mutually agreed upon by the candidate and the hiring manager. This position may require long hours and occasional evening or weekend work.

TRAVEL

Occasional travel for professional development may be required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or related field
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • At least ten (10) years of progressive supervisory and financial management experience, three (3) of which must be of non-profit experience.
  • Experience with automated financial systems and other system standards.
  • Experience in developing, maintaining and controlling administrative procedures.
  • Experience supervising staff and staff coordination with other departments.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) Certificate
  • Experience in a Higher Education Institution.
  • Experience with Federal Contracting with certification.
